"Anyone throwing garbage haphazardly will be penalised"
Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Balendra Shah, has warned of taking action against those throwing garbage haphazardly in the Kathmandu Valley. Even those throwing solid waste at night will be punished with the help of CCTV footage. Speaking at a Valley-level crime investigation review seminar organised by Nepal Police here yesterday, Mayor Shah said action would be taken against those throwing garbage in a haphazard manner in coordination with traffic police. This will be done soon after complete management of the garbage in the valley. He further said the KMC has made arrangements for the budget for the installation of CCTV cameras in its various parts.
The Nepal Police shared that there are now 5,000 CCTV cameras installed in the valley whereas 25,000 such cameras are required to make peace and security efficient and to control crime in the valley. Mayor Shah expressed the view that initiatives in collaboration with the Nepal Police have been taken to bring the buildings constructed in the valley to follow the map that was designed and passed by the concerned authorities.
Activities to remove the shops, businesses operated in the area constructed for parking are underway in collaboration with police, added KMC Mayor Shah. Illegal structures in Kathmandu Mall, RB Complex and Durbar Marg have been removed today. The KMC is also learnt to have asked the District Court in Kathmandu to provide a copy of the approved house design.
