Satish Kumar More : A Man with Mission

Satish Kumar More : A Man with Mission

KATHMANDU : “If you have a big vision supplemented by strong ethics, the roads towards success will be quite smoother.” This is exactly what Satish Kumar  More, Chairman, Lucky Group, firmly believes in.

He embarked upon his profession journey back in 1978. That time, he joined and supported his family business in Birgunj. Apart from the retail, the enterprise was focused on the manufacturing pertaining to leather, polythene, etc. He worked in it for 2 years and then decided to come to Kathmandu.

The very decision was guided by his desire to also start a venture here. “I set up a Tyre House Pvt Ltd dealing with the Dunlop brand in Teku,” More recalled adding, ”Nonetheless, the state of business was below-the-mark.”       Then, as per the suggestion of his brother (Shrawan Kumar More), he began to import the tyres of the Vox Wagon brand.  This, fortunately, proved a strategic move for the growth of his sluggish tyre business.  The business grew so phenomenally that it was later expanded to other cities of the country like Birgunj, Butwal, Bratnagar and Narayangarh.

Today , Tyre House deals in PCR, OTR and TBR tyres belonging to the brands from Thailand and Indonesia. “The very initiation of product diversification also marked a turning point in my business career. It bestowed upon me with not only tangible benefits but also intangible ones,” he recalls   According to him, there was a whole new boost in the level of his self-confidence.  “Buoyed up by this, he further diversified the trading business in 1984/85. The very business is being continued these days under the name of  company called Gayatri & Sons Pvt Ltd.  As a subsidiary of the Lucky Group, it imports and sells various consumer appliances and white goods from brands such as Hindware and Polar.

Through the business of trading, More simply got a chance to enhance his professional knowledge and dexterities.  “In the course of my profession, I undertook various activities like visiting several foreign countries for purposes like product research.  This facilitated me to get largely well-acquainted with the fundamental values of business,” he relates.

Leading with insight and innovation

More started to venture in other sectors like manufacturing, service, and finance and insurance from 1993. And, it finally culminated to a business conglomerate known as Lucky Group.

“Trading not only taught me vital business ideas/skills but also motivated me to mobile them to the hilt. As a result,  I laid the foundation of the Group with strong backing from my close relatives and friends,” he humbly informs.

Under his stewardship, it is strictly adopting visionary ideas and leading-edge technologies for its overall growth. And, this, of course, has hit the bull's-eye.

For instance, the Group was selected by Chinese firm Hongsi from Nepal as businesses partner for cement production herein the country. Consequently, it gave birth to Nepal’s biggest cement factory- Hongshi-Shivam Cement- some three years back .

Similarly, the application of the Process Specification Language (PSL) –based online monitoring systems in the manufacturing units (like vanasapati ghee) is helping to ensure more effective and efficient outputs.

As a matter of fact, More has also a few major plans up his sleeve. “They are  about developing more forward linkages and backward linkages so as to further enhance the value chain of the companies operating under the group.

“The Lucky Group has already carved a distinct image for itself in the Nepali business world. And, I along with my management team, will continue to enrich this positive reputation via vision and innovation,” he elaborates.

Determined to go beyond bounds

More was/is a man with an indomitable passion to do more.   His leading involvement also with the the Confederation of Nepalese Industries,  Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nepal Foreign Trade Association, Nepal- India Chamber of Commerce, etc, in various periods of time augurs well this fact.

Remarkably, he has proven his mettle while being a part of such reputed business organization of the country. For example, while leading the CNI, in particular, as its president, More undertook certain strategic moves beneficial not for it but also for the nation as a whole.

“During my tenure from April, 2019 to July 2021, the confederation, among others, suggested for the launching of 'Make in Nepal-Swadeshi' campaign, proving seed capital to start-ups, system of wheeling charge and  provision of  reimbursing 75 percent of the total cost of the industries  for constructing access roads to project sites and transmission lines.

The one and only purpose behind this was to help insert a whole new impetus to the economy hit by the Covid-19 pandemic,”  he informs adding,” And, fortunately, the government incorporated such recommendations in  the current budget.  I am really thankful for the concerned prime minister, finance minister as well as other bureaucrats for doing so by well comprehending their economic import.”

And, the adoption of strong moral values just bolsters such preparations by warding off unnecessary legal and other risks

2. Win the trust of customers

Several components are necessary to win customers, and everyone at the company needs to know their own role in

retaining customers. Everyone on your team should understand how they fit into the brand and what they bring to the value chain that delivers a successful customer experience.

3. Be Creative

You should always look for ways to improve your business and gain traction in the

marketplaces. Recognize that you don't know everything and be open to new ideas and

new approaches to your business.

The input of the labour, capital and raw materials can

never become production without the catalyst of management. So the

bottom-line is that good management ensures good productivity.

4. Go for good management.

Some underestimate the importance of management in business but the

reality is not so. The input of the labour, capital and raw materials can

never become production without the catalyst of management. So the

bottom-line is that good management ensures good productivity.

5. Feel responsibility towards society

Creating only tangible (financial) gains is not enough in today’s increasingly conscious world.

Intangible values are also equally important to boost up your social image. If you dedicatedly

invest in genuine social causes, you will sure reap such values.
