Inflation reaches its highest level in 5 years

 

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 10 : In the last Nepali month of Poush (December 16, 2021 to January 14, 2022), the inflation rate has reached its highest level in the last five years. The rate stood at 5.65 percent, which was also 0.85 percent less than the yearly target set for the current fiscal year according to the latest monthly report of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).  

In the Nepali month of Bhadra (August 17 to September 16) in the fiscal year 2016/17, the consumer price inflation had jumped to 7.90 percent. The central bank had targeted to tame it at 6.50 percent.

 In the last six months of the last FY, the inflation rate was recorded at 3.56 percent.

During the review period, the price hike of the category of ghee and oil was highest at 21.22 percent.  Similarly, such hikes of the food and beverages and non-food and service categories stood at  4.92 percent and 6.23 percent respectively. 

 

In the last month of Poush, the Kathmandu valley, Terai, Hills and mountain recorded the inflation at 5.28 percent, 6.15 percent, 5.34 percent and 5.22 percent respectively.
