Hotel Yak and Yeti to face the music
KATHMANDU : FEBRUARY 13 : Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Prem Ale, has decided to revoke the five-star status of Hotel Yak and Yeti and also the license of casino being operated under it .
Minister Ale made such a decision recently as the hotel located at Durbarmarg here in the capital failed to pay more than Rs 420 million in royalty to the state.
It is learnt that the Tourism Department is formally asking the Offices of Prime Minister and Ministerial Council, Home Ministry to assist in penalizing the hotel for its financial delinquency . Similarly, the department has also urged the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation and Nepal Rastra Bank for their assistance in this regard.
The very ministry is requested for freezing of the property of the hotel and the central bank for blocking its banking accounts and transactions.
According to the tourism department, which regulates casino business, it was compelled to take actions against Yak and Yeti due to its repeated denial to clear the due royalty.
