South Korea not to take Nepali migrant workers

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 13: Owing to the rapid upsurge in the COVID-19 infections in its territory, South Korea has decided to cease the intake of migrant workers from various nations including Nepal, report media sources.

“With such a decision made from the South Korean Ministry of Labour and Employment Ministry, the regular air flight from Kathmandu to Seoul scheduled on February 13 is also cancelled,” the sources quoted the Nepali embassy based in Seoul as saying.

Krishna Kumar Shrestha, Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, said,” Even though the flights set for tomorrow have been cancelled, efforts are underway to come up with the new schedule for operating them.

“The Nepali labourers have long been waiting to fly to South Korea after passing the required language and skills tests under the Employment Permit System (EPS). So, the government is taking the initiative to enable them to do soon after the minimization in the infection rates.”
