Nepal imports apples worth Rs 6 billion from China alone

KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 1 :  Nepal produces apples in a big quantity, but t does have proper storage facilities. So, the country is shelling out a lot of money in importing this kind of fruit from foreign countries. According to data from the Department of Customs, Nepal in last fiscal year imported apples worth Rs 5.98 million from China alone. This is an increase of 2.8 percent compared to the previous fiscal year when these fruits amount to Rs 5.83 billion had been brought from the northern neighbor.  

Though Nepal imports apply from other countries like India, USA and Turkey, the import volume of the same from these countries is less compared to China,

In the last fiscal year, a total of 80.67 million kilograms of applies were imported into the country. Of them, China accounts for 60.94 million kgs. Similarly, the share of India stands at 10.73 million kgs worth Rs 1.16 billion in this regard.
