KMC to keep tabs on marketplaces targeting festivals
KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 23 : The Kathmandu Metropolitican City (KMC) has decided to start market monitoring from the next week. According to Sunita Dangol, Deputy Mayor, a meeting of the KMC recently made the very decision targeting the upcoming festivals of Dashain, Tihar and Chhath.
"The chances of general customers being cheated on by fraudelent traders during the festive season are simply high. As such, our team is all set to supervise the quality standards and the price rates of a number of products in the marketplaces, she elaborated. Dongol is also the Coordinator of the Committee of Market Management and Protection of Consumers' Rights under the KMC.
Meat shops, dairy product shops, department stores, wholesales of food grains, vegetable shops, etc will be monitored by creating their separate clusters. This is expected to ease the task of market monitoring systematic and effective.
According to Dangol, her office will first informing the traders/businessmen about the negative implications of cheating the general consumers vis substandard products and artificial pice hike, and in case any of them ignore it, strict actions will be taken against him/her
