Two more Chinese nationals held in connection with gold smuggling
KATHMANDU, AUGUST 18 : Police personnel from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) have apprehended two additional Chinese nationals suspected of being involved in a gold smuggling operation. The arrests were made last night in Kathmandu. Inspector General of Police Kuber Kadayat confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine their level of involvement in the smuggling of gold.
The identities of the arrested Chinese nationals have not been disclosed by Nepal Police. The arrests follow the detention of four other Chinese nationals on August 16 in connection with the same case. Cases related to smuggling illegal gold and organized crime will be filed against all those involved, as stated by Kadayat.
The total number of individuals arrested in connection with the gold smuggling case has now reached 23. The Revenue Investigation Department (RID) had previously seized a significant quantity of gold that was smuggled into Nepal from Hong Kong on July 19. The gold had been concealed within the brake shoe of a motorcycle.
