Ncell expands 4G in Jumla

KATHMANDU, AUGUST 21: Ncell Axiata Limited, a telecom company operating in Nepal, has expanded its fourth generation (4G) mobile broadband service in Jumla, a remote district in Karnali Province of Western Nepal. This expansion aligns with Ncell's commitment to provide modern connectivity and expand its services to customers across the country. Ncell has set up three new towers in Chandhannath Municipality, Tila Rural Municipality, and Tatopani Rural Municipality within Jumla district. Prior to this, Ncell was offering basic mobile services using V-SAT technology.

With the installation of these new towers, residents, including those in the district headquarters Khalanga, now have access to both mobile broadband and voice services. This marks a significant improvement from the earlier basic mobile services. The expansion of 4G coverage to these areas has increased the overall 4G coverage of Ncell's services to 91.39%.

Jabbor Kayumov, the CEO and Managing Director of Ncell, said, "The expansion of 4G to Jumla contributes to the government's Digital Nepal vision and enhances connectivity in the region. Ncell prioritizes 4G technology due to its ability to offer high-quality voice and high-speed mobile broadband services."

Ncell had previously launched 4G services in the Kathmandu Valley in 2017, enabling customers to access high-speed mobile broadband connectivity. Over the last fiscal year, the company has installed 338 new sites in various parts of the country and upgraded the 4G capacity in around 1,450 towers across more than 60 districts.

The advantages of 4G include improved bandwidth, lower latency, enhanced spectrum efficiency, and the ability for customers to use a wider range of applications on their mobile devices. This technology enables real-time sharing of large files, media streaming, and quick transmission of time-sensitive data.

Moreover, the expansion and enhancement of the 4G network align with the government's Digital Nepal Framework, contributing to increased access to mobile broadband services and boosting the growth of industries like information and communication technology (ICT), entrepreneurship, media, and other sectors, which collectively support the country's economic growth.

Currently, Ncell operates over 4,000 4G BTS (Base Transceiver Station) sites across Nepal to provide high-speed mobile internet and Voice over Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) services. This ongoing expansion and capacity improvement of the 4G network are aimed at fulfilling the Digital Nepal Framework's goals by making mobile broadband services more accessible to the population.
