KMC comes up with Labour Bank

KATHMANDU, AUGUST 22: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has introduced the concept of a "Labour Bank" aimed at connecting unemployed individuals within the metropolis to potential employment opportunities. In a recent notice issued by KMC, the city administration encourages unemployed citizens in the area to register with the Labour Bank.

The primary purpose of the Bank is to facilitate the supply of the workforce needed for various developmental projects within the metropolis, such as infrastructure development, repairs and maintenance, heritage preservation, environmental conservation, and urban system management. The bank also aims to act as a bridge between registered workers and potential employers in government, non-government, and private sectors.

This initiative aligns with KMC's Golden Plan, which is part of its annual policies and programs for the fiscal year 2023-24. The goal of the Labour Bank is to provide unemployed individuals with increased access to local employment opportunities, thereby fostering a culture of labor participation within the country. Additionally, KMC hopes that this effort will help curb the migration of youth to foreign employment by creating viable employment options within the metropolis.

To participate in the Labour Bank scheme, interested individuals residing within the metropolis are required to complete a designated form and submit it to the Employment Service Centre in their respective wards. Once registered, laborers will be compensated based on approved labor rates for part-time or daily wage labor assignments during the current fiscal year. Local residents of Kathmandu Metropolitan City will be given priority for employment opportunities within the program.
