Birgunj Customs Office fails to meet revenue collection target

NOVEMBER 29 : The Birgunj Customs Office has failed to meet its targetted revenue collection since the very first month of the current fiscal year. The country’s major customs office collected 85 percent i.e Rs 12.99 billion of the total target of Rs 15.2 billion in this month- Shrawan (July 17 to August 16).

Similarly, in Bhadra (August 19 to September 16), though the target was to collect Rs 19.29 billion, only  Rs 14.14 billion was collected, Information Officer of the Office Sumit, Gupta said.

Likewise,  the revenue collection remained less by Rs 9.38 billion in Asoj (September 17 to October 16). In this third month of the current fiscal year, the Office had targeted to collect Rs 21.88 billion but it collected just Rs 12.49 billion

. In the last Nepali month of Karkit (October 17 to November 19), the Office achieved just 60 percent of its total target collecting Rs 12.92 billion despite the target of Rs 21.65 billion. r Gupta said that the government ban on the import of 10 goods that contribute the most in the revenue collection led to reduced revenue collection here. Compared to the last fiscal year, revenue collection from the import of petroleum products has decreased by 74 percent and 69 percent from the import of vehicles.
