Nepal to propose India to commence cross-border railway

KATHMANDU, APRIL 26: In the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Puspa Kamal Dahal to India,  the construction of the Kathmandu-Raxaul Cross-Border Railway will also be on the agenda. This has been confirmed with the southern neighbour preparing a report on the  Final Location Survey of the project.

According to media sources, the Nepali side, during the said visit, is going to propose the Indian side to start constructing the railway based on the study reports on cost, route, engineering, etc. Doing this is expected to help both sides reach a concrete understanding of the modality and technology related to the project.

As per the report on the preliminary engineering and traffic survey already prepared by India-based Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL), the 136 km-long Kathmandu-Raxaul Cross-Border Railway will be stretched up to Khokana through Nijgadh. Of its total length, there will be a tunnel in the 40 km-long section.   Some 30 bridges- both small and big-  are also going to be built along the railway.
