Minister Rijal asks local levels to remove double taxation

BARA, AUGUST 8: Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supply, Ramesh Rijal, has called upon the local levels of Bara and Parsa districts to abolish the tax imposed on raw materials, known as scrap tax. Speaking at an event organized to celebrate the 6th Establishment Day of Jitpursimara Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jitpur of Simara yesterday, Minister Rijal warned that the federal government would take necessary steps if the local levels do not remove the scrap tax.

He pointed out that industrialists and entrepreneurs already pay income tax from their earnings, but the local levels impose additional taxes, including integrated property tax, resulting in double taxation. Minister Rijal urged the local levels to reconsider their decision to impose double tax on businesses.

Regarding the government's plans, he mentioned that they aim to revitalize struggling industries through partnerships with the private sector and attract entrepreneurs to special economic zones by offering affordable land on rent. Additionally, the government is considering providing land free of cost for the establishment of export-oriented industries.

Other attendees at the event, including Anil Kumar Agrawal, President of Birjung Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ashok Das, President of Nepal India Cooperation Forum, Dr. Subodh Kumar Gupta, Central Committee member of Federation of Nepali Chambers of Commerce and Industries, and Ashok Tamata, FNCCI Madhes Province President, also discussed the challenges faced by industries in the region. The program was chaired by Mohan Sharma Lamichhane, the President of Jitpursimara Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
