CIB given responsibility to investigate further into gold smuggling

KATHMANDU, AUGUST 8: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police has been entrusted with the task of conducting further investigations into the smuggling of 100 kg of gold, following 17 days since the gold was seized upon its smuggling from a foreign country.

This development was announced by the Revenue Investigation Department (RID) yesterday. The Director General of RID, Nabaraj Dhungana, informed that the CIB has received the investigation file to delve deeper into the gold smuggling case. Dhungana stated that all other aspects of the investigation will now be undertaken by the CIB.

This decision came after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' last week directed the RID  to transfer the investigation responsibility to the CIB. Following the Prime Minister's directive, the necessary procedures were completed and the files were transferred to the CIB. The CIB's scope of investigation will cover financial matters as well as organized and transnational crimes related to the case.

Deputy Inspector General of the Nepal Police, Kuber Kadayat, mentioned that the CIB will initiate the investigation upon receiving official communication from the Department. Presently, 17 individuals are in custody under suspicion of being involved in the gold smuggling case.
