NATTA urges to bring tourism-friendly monetary policy
KATHMANDU, JUNE 8: The Nepal Association of Tour and Travels Agents (NATTA) has urged Nepal Rastra Bank, the central bank of Nepal, to bring a tourism-friendly monetary policy. A team headed by NATTA Chairperson, Ramesh Thapa, on Tuesday called on Governor of the NRB, Maha Prasad Adhikari, and urged to introduce a monetary policy that is capable of restoring the pandemic-battered tourism industry.
The Association has put forth its demand to continue the re-financing provisions for five years so as to revitalize the industry. At a time when the pandemic-hit tourism industry was gradually recovering, the central bank-imposed changes in re-financing work procedure had negatively impacted the entire industry, the delegation told Governor Adhikari.
Among other demands put forward by the Association include creating an environment for re-payment without a fine, arrangement of 'cash back incentive', and easy loan flow to the tourism sector as well. The Association urged the governor to consider their demands when the tourism entrepreneurs are not in a condition to repay the bank loans on time due to the unprecedented impacts of COVID-19.
