NRB launches BSBS to modernize old note recycling
With an aim to modernize and digitalise the recycling of old notes, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has introduced Banknotes Shredding and Briquetting Systems (BSBS) from its office located in Biratnagar.
Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari formally launched the BSBS by turning it switch on at a program held today in the city. The very systems have been adopted to do away with the existing process of burning the unused old notes by rather breaking them down into small pieces to produce briquettes.
Addressing the program, Governor Adhikari said that the introduction of the latest technology will help digitally streamline the operations of the central bank. “We are now carrying out necessary homework to identify the possible areas for which the briquettes produced will be used,” he says adding,” The process to amend the regulation related to recycling of old notes will be amended by bringing the required procedures is nearing completion .”
