Number of Demat account holders reaches over 5 million
KATHMANDU, MARCH 3 : The share market has lately witnessed an upsurge in the number of general investors. According to the Central Depoitory System (CDS) and Clearing, those opening Demat (Dematerialized) account now number more than 5 million.
Such a large figure can be attributed to the mandatory provision of such account for trading stocks, Similarly, the number of those opening Mero Share account stands at 4.1 million.
As of Wednesday, 8.20 billion units of shares have been deposited in Demat accounts registered under the names of different people. With the capital market becoming more tech-friendly, general public are being increasingly attracted to invest in it.
