Eight ISPs face the music
KATHMANDU, MARCH 5: Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has taken action against eight internet service providers (ISPs) for violating the set rules. They each were slapped a cash penalty of Rs 1,00,000 today for publishing notices via various social and other media channels without first getting the needed approval from the NTA.
WorldLink Communications, Vianet Communication, Subisu, Classic Tech, Websurfer Nepal Communication System, CG Communications, Dish Media Network, and WiFi Nepal are those companies penalized as per Section 47 (2) of the Telecommunication Act 1997.
They were also told to discontinue their illicit acts within the next 15 days and inform about it to the NEA.
Three of the eight ISPs- World Link, Subisu, and Vianet- also each faced an additional cash fine of 50,000 for selling a bundled package of internet and cable TV service without taking the regulator's permission during the last Dashain.
