Govt takes over Smart Telecom
KATHMANDU, MAY 5 : Nepal Telecom Authority (NTA) has taken over the management of Smart Telecom. Some time back, the operating license of the latter was revoked by the former in accordance with the Section 25 (5) of the Telecom Act 2053. It happed because of the failure of Smart Telecom to renew the very license by clearing the dues amounting to a total of Rs 28 billion.
By issuing a notice on Wednesday (April 3) , the NTA has also instructed Smart Telecom to handover the infrastructure, systems and networks pertaining to telecom to the Authority. According to sources, the company is being controlled by the government on the basis of Property Management Regulations, 2079 BS.
The businesspersons and customers of Smart Telcom are adversely affected by latest move on the part of the NTA.
