Metlife, Clean-Up Nepal hosts event in Budhanilkanth

KATHMANDU, APRIL 19 : Clean up Nepal, in collaboration with MetLife Nepal, recently hosted a ‘Litter Clean up Event’  on the periphery of Budhanilkantha temple in the capital. The event, which not only helped clean the public spaces around the temple but also brought together communities, civil society organizations, government and private organizations. Budhanilkantha Narayanthan Management Committee, Community Police Service Center, Metropolitan Police Sector, Environment Conservation Initiative Nepal (ECI) and other youth groups participated in the event.

 

In all major cities of Nepal, littering, waste dumpingand trash burning have all been issues in the field of waste management. Littering has negative health and environmental consequences. The event aimed at educating the public about the effects of littering, engaging in regular clean-ups, carrying a litterbag with you, and only dropping garbage in trash cans rather than public spaces.

 

The event began with the briefing among the participants about different types of waste and waste segregation. Likewise, the participants were divided into different groups and were circulated in different areas around the temple for clean-up. 21 sacks of litter totaling to over 100kgs were collected during the event.55 participants attended the clean-up event with the main objective toraise awareness on the importance of proper waste management.
