Sah now a new mayor of KMC
KATHMANDU, MAY 27: Independent candidate Balendra Sah has been elected as mayor of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) by securing 61,767 votes in the recently held local elections. According to the District Election Office, he made it to the very post by defeating Srijana Singh of Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML candidate Keshav Sthapit who got 38,341 38,117 votes respectively.
Likewise, Sunita Dangol of CPN (UML) was elected the deputy mayor of the KMC by securing 68,612 votes while her nearest rival Rameshwor Shrestha of CPN (Unified Socialist) got 23,806 votes. A total of 56 candidates had contested for the mayoral candidacy of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City while 35 candidates were vying for the post of deputy mayor of the city.
Out of a total of the 32 wards in the KMC, Nepali Congress, UML and CPN (Unified Socialist) won chair in 19 wards, 12 wards and one ward respectively. Similarly, of a total of 300,242 voters,190,962 voters had cast their votes.
Newly-elected mayor of the KMC, Sah, who is a Master's in Structural Engineering from India, has also earned his fame as a rapper. Mayor Sah has expressed commitment to improving the infrastructures, roads, schools, hospitals, and waste management system here.
