FinMin steps down
KATHMANDU, JULY 7: Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has tendered his resignation in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday. Sharma said he resigned as the minister in his bid to ease the investigation regarding the allegations made against him for changing tax rates by involving two authorised people.
Taking special time in the meeting, the outgoing minister claimed that such allegations are baseless and targeted to defame him. He also demanded that a parliamentary probe committee investigates the matter.
Sharma also claimed that he was able to stop the smuggling of betel nuts, beans, and peppers and slightly changed taxes on electric vehicles. Stating that in the past, there were changes in taxes benefiting a handful of people, he maintained that he might have faced the allegations for his efforts to develop a self-reliant economy.
